This is a true story based on my own and my late sisters experience of ovarian cancer. It is a guide about the things we learned along the way, the do's and the don't's, helpful hints, questions that should have been asked and questions that should have been answered. what to do and when to do it, when is enough and when to look elsewhere.

Jill Herring is not a professional writer. She is a woman who watched her beloved sister die far too young from a devastating disease. Her sister had none of the risk factors for ovarian cancer. She was under forty, slim, active, and a non-smoker. She had a good marriage, a good job, and three daughters. She died less than two years after she was diagnosed. Her sister tells her story both to honor her life and to educate others about the complexities of cancer treatment. She was British, but was covered by private insurance through her employer. This was NOT (as one reviewer claims) a failure of the National Health Service. Her death may not have been preventable, but she might have increased her survival chances if she had known the right questions to ask. Trusting in the medical system, they only started searching for answers on their own after the doctors had stopped trying. Then they learned that she would have been eligible for clinical trials, but only if she had asked. British doctors are not allowed to introduce the subject.
They also (through internet meetings with other ovarian cancer survivors) learned of various alternative treatments which could have been utilized. Unfortunately, none of this information was available until it was too late to help. This problem is not limited to ovarian cancer. Every family who has a seriously ill loved one has to reinvent the wheel when it comes to medical care. The best advice is to start researching immediately and learn all you can from all sources. Knowledge truly is power and the patient must be the sole decision maker in her own care.

Been There Didn't Do That The Journey of Ovarian Cancer edition by Jill Herring Professional Technical eBooks Reviews
I didn't care for this story. It was sad, and didn't end well. I feel for the author and the struggle she and her sister faced. This goes to show you what happens in a "state run" healthcare system.
Author needs a better editor!
I to am battling stage 4 ovarian have had chemo for 2 years. Nothing else they can do. So I stopped chemo . I read this book to help me prepare for what is to come. Now after reading this. I know what to prepare for and what is ahead of me.
This is a book that truly makes one think about how lucky we are and to listen to your body as you know it best. Great job was done so that it can help others and that was the goal all along. This is a must to read for all women.
My step daughter is facing the end of life from ovarian cancer any time now. This form of cancer has no cure and a life expentancy of less than 5 years. This helped me better understand the need to support any fund raiser for Overian Cancer.
